Interactive Technologies Institute.

It is an R&D unit of the Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems (LARSyS) which specializes in design of innovative interactive systems and services that harmonise the entanglements between humans and digital technologies. 

 
 

Data Scientist : (Sep. 2023 - Present)

  • Developed a light weight time-series forecasting python library to predict energy demand, lowering the inference cost by more than 60%.

  • Developed a federated learning framework for real‑time PV power forecasting across distributed energy systems while ensuring consumers’ privacy and a pilot is deployed in Madeira Island.

  • Created an observability platform with interactive dashboards to monitor performance of forecasting models to provide actionable insights, informing research and operational decisions.

  • Developed a weather forecasts database with real-time forecasts obtained by processing data from different weather data sources.

Belltro is a tech startup transforming Conversational AI in Africa. Belltro believes that natural language and speech will change the way we interact with consumer and enterprise applications by creating more efficient and personalized experiences.  

 
 

ML Engineer : (Nov. 2021 - Aug. 2023)

  • Developed a WhatsApp chatbot to deliver financial literacy and entrepreneurship education to over 20,000 users.

  • Built a Swahili language news classification model using Robustly Optimized BERT Pretraining Approach and deployed it via REST API.

  • Created automated pipelines to scrape news data from disparate sources, process, and store the news data into MongoDB using Python.

  • Maintained production APIs powering news data access for a mobile app used by thousands of readers.

ML Software Engineer : (Nov. 2019 - Nov. 2021)

  • Worked on different Machine Learning projects from clients to help companies with data analytics.

  • Customized LabelImg open source tool so that it is able to perform auto‑annotating using computer vision models with 92% annotation accuracy, reducing manual labeling efforts by 60%.

  • Created AI backend for a mobile app to detect banana leaves plant diseases by capturing image of the affected region and processing it using computer vision algorithms.

Vodacom Tanzania is Tanzania’s leading communications company providing a wide range of services for consumers and enterprise including voice, data, messaging, financial services and Enterprise solutions.  

 
 

Backend Engineer: (Apr. 2018 - Nov. 2019)

  • Developed Vodacom’s 5G routers Online shop and management system backend.

  • Developed Vodacom’s AfyaCall Mini‐app backend.

  • Maintained Vodacom's website and mobile app backend with over 100,000 daily users.

  • Utilized Docker to make deployments portable.

  • Developed automation pipelines for automated code reviews and deployment using Jenkins.
